Things you need to know before you book a hair colouring appointment

Your first attempt at colouring your hair can be daunting, and with good reason. When done wrong, hair colouring can result in significant hair damage and even hair loss. This is why we encourage you to always consult with colouring experts. When done right, a new hair colour will elevate your mood and confidence in unimaginable ways!

Get a consultation first!

Everyone’s hair is different. From the texture to the thickness and porosity among other factors that will affect how well the colouring goes. A consultation will ensure that you and your stylist are both aware of your hair, and what needs to be done to get the colour that you want.

Do some research.

What colour do you really want? How dark or how light are you willing to go? What shade is an absolute no for you? You can have this conversation as part of the consultation but it is better to also equip yourself prior to engaging your stylist. Find inspiration pictures for both what you want and what you do not want. These will give you and your stylist a clear vision of the intended outcome.

Do not wash your hair.

I know a lot of people who feel nervous about showing up to a hair appointment with dirty hair. But if you wash your hair before a colouring appointment, there is a chance that the residual shampoo will interfere with the colour. And this could be bad for your hair and scalp.

You might need some patience.

Especially if you’re looking for lighter shades. Sometimes, it may take more than one appointment to get the right shade of platinum. Understanding your hair and the colour you’re looking to get will certainly make the whole process easier for you.

Book your appointment well in advance

The best thing about booking an appointment is that you will get as much time as you need at the salon. No one will rush you, so your hair will be done right. At Salon Poa, we like to ensure that your stylist has enough time to meet all of your expectations.
